Late 19th-C French hand-decorated tole tray with a scene featuring General Napoleon Bonaparte with Lieutenant General Peter Quasdanovich. The French inscription reads: "Bonaparte surpris a Lonato - 1796". The tray is black with a gold trim and black on the back. Tray measures: 16.5inx12inx1in.
(The Battle of Lonato - a town south of Lake Garda - was fought on 3 and 4 August 1796 between the French Army of Italy under General Napoleon Bonaparte and a small Austrian column led by Lieutenant General Peter Quasdanovich).
Condition information: item shows wear consistent with age. The painted scene is legible and has water marks on its sides and edges as illustrated in the photos. There is some rust in the corners, edges and back of the tray.
